Remove Steering column sheet metal

I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove the sheet metal on the steering column to paint, but the weather here in Michigan will not cooperate. Is removing this a big job on a to 35? My big concern is, it looks like the governer is attached to it. She runs just fine now and I really don't want to go through the hassle of getting it back correctly. I have all other sheet metal and wheels off and in a heated 12 x 16 heated building, primed & ready to paint.

Terry....I just went out and looked at my MF-35, (same thing as your TO-35) and if you look up under the dash....theres one bolt that unbolts that whole throttle rod/ governor shaft from the dash and another linkage shaft with a screw in the end of it to disconnect the throttle linkage coming down from the throttle itself. But, I myself would never take the dash sheetmetal off....just tape over the guages on the dash and paint. But, I reckon that this project is gonna be a complete restoration....the way I'm reading your post....and you want to sand off all the paint and reprime and paint....and can't do it with the guages installed. Well, good luck....cause it's a heck of a job to remove the dash with all the electrical connections, oil line and temperature fitting (which sometimes breaks on the way out). You're looking to become a glutton for punishment. L8R....Fred OH
