Reading the Ferguson owner's manuual is a little daunting. The maintainence schedule is extensive. For example, draining the carb after every use and lubing the chassis every ten hours.

Is it imperative that I do this or is all of this overdone? What sort of things should you really not miss?

Thanks

Frank

To put the greasing in perspective, manufacturers recommend daily greasing because pumping new grease in pushes the old stuff out and flushes the parts clean. If you were working in clouds of abrasive dust (e.g. soil) all day it would be a good idea to grease daily. Otherwise just do it as you feel its needed.

If the tractor is going to sit for a long period, you will want to drain the carb. Otherwise it isn't necessary. No matter how little use a tractor gets, I always change the engine oil at least once a year. As Peter says, it just depends on degree of use, how much time elapses, etc.

Frank, A lot depends on what you use the tractor for and how hard you work it. Obviously, if you only use her on light work occasionally you don't need to be as particular with oiling and greasing as if you use the tractor on heavy work daily. You should always check your oil and water levels every time you use her, but anything else is a matter of degree.
