I just bought an old (think around 1948) massey harris ferguson tractor. A plate behind the steering wheel has the # TEA 395092 on it. I assumed this was the serial # but when I went to get parts the dealer said it was not. My question is where do I find the serial # and model # of this tractor. Could someone suugest where to start.

This should be the model and serial number, which by my thinking makes it a petrol model made in 1954, I think. This plate is the only place where the serial number is found, I would try speaking to the proper specialists for the Ferguson spares. Try finding Fergiland, whom I always sue to obtain parts.

The tractor is a Ferguson, not a Massey Ferguson, nor a Massey Harris Ferguson - all those companies joined up after your tractor was made.
The model is TEA20. After a certain serial number (well below yours) the piston size was increased from 80 mm to 85 mm. Depending where you live, your tractor may be known as a 20-85. Try that on your dealer.
I see by your address you're in Canada - whereabouts? Around here (near Ottawa) you can get quite a few parts from the local UAP dealer.

It is possible the plate says Massey Harris Ferguson because the join up between Massey Harris and Ferguson occured in 1953 but the production lines were kept separate until 1958. The serial number confirms it was made after this date (like I said made c.1954), so the plate is correct in stating Massey-Harris-Ferguson as the manufacturer. The name change on the serial number plate was the only change made to the T20, and for the same reason the Ferguson FE35 actually has MHF cast into the block and along the axle trumpets. I know, my 35 has taken the last year of y time to get the details right!.
