TEA Block Castings

Recently purchased a 1949 TEA20. This is one of the first "Reekie" vineyard tractors as well. However, just above the oil filter in inch high letters is 20A9 A cast into the side of the block. I have 4 T20's but this is the only one I have ever seen with these markings. The oil filer cap is also plain with no markings(ie, no oil company names inscribed on it) which I have also never seen before. Any ideas why?

The only thing that comes to my mind is that the blocks changed when they went from 6v to 12v. Could it be that your others are all post 200,000, and this one is older? No idea at all about the oil filler cap. That's aposer, as they say.

Thats a good point, which I hadn't thought of, and could be so. The tractors serial no. is 88951, which seems early though and it still has the 6v system. What about the increase in bore size? could this be the reason? Did this occur around 1949?

The increase in bore size was at serial number 172,588 (1951), but the block casting might not have changed then, as they only would have had to have put in different sleeves.
At s/n 200,000 when they went to 12v, the hole size for the starter changed. Actually the casting might not have changed then either; maybe they were able to just drill the different sized hole in the same casting.
Well, this is totally speculation.

Thanks Jim for the info, perhaps I'll never know what the markings are, the thing is we learn new things about these old tractors constantly, just have to keep searching for the answers.
