Can anyone tell me if there is a starter that my starter drive and nose cone will fit on. I am working on a 1955 TO 35 I just bought. I did find a new starter but was looking for a way out of spending over 250.00! Or can I get a housing (nose cone) that will fit a different starter and drive? Thanks for any info!

I have a 59 TO-35, while doing a engine rebuild I found a crack in my starter nose cone. The stater is a 12 volt Delco Remy. Value Built wanted $180 i think for a new starter, the local Car Quest wanted $150. I took mine to the local rebuild shop and they took it apart ,cleaned it installed new brushes and a new nose cone and charged me $40. My nose cone was available at Car Quest for $30, check around $50 seems high. Did you try Napa?

I went to napa they wanted $229.00 A local rebuilder said the armature and brushes were 75.00 the field coils around 40.00 they said their nose cones were 85.00 my nose cone is ok though.

The local rebuilder I went to said that if he had to totally rebuild my starter he would be less than the Car Quest price of $150. He said his cost for the nose cone was $23. He specializes in farm and industrial equipment. I would ask around at the local car parts stores and tractor/implement dealers for names of rebuilders, thats how I found this one
