PTO Shaft

We have a TO-30 and we find bronze filings in the pump area. The PTO shaft is not smooth where it goes through the bronze bushing in the pump as I would expect the shaft to be, it fact it has a series of very fine ridges. It is an 1 3/8" shaft. Do we have the correct shaft for the TO-30?

You have a replacement PTO shaft. The original has 1 1/8" spline diameter. Something may be misaligned with the shaft/pump mounting. To center the pump on the shaft, drain the oil (3 drain plugs), loosen the pump mounting bolts just enough so you can move the bottom plate by hand or you'll damage the linkage. Start tractor with PTO engaged only long enough to allow the shaft and pump to center themselves. Retighten bolts, refill with oil;(replace oil if contaminated, or off color). That said, I'd completely remove the pump ( must have manual) and inspect for damage since you already know of abnormal wear; they are quite expensive to replace. Overhaul kits are available from YT if needed.
