I have a TED 20 with a 6 volt starter and wonder whether its possible to get the rubber coupling inside the thing anywhere in UK? Mine broke apart a while ago and I welded it solid as an emergency measure but with 12v on it its a bit severe when it engages.

I also was thinking I might be better replacing the 6 volt starter with a 12 volt one. Does anyone know if the 6 volt and 12 volt ones are interchangeable?

Not to certain about the rubber but try B Tullet in Kilmarnock he has some spares the types are not interchangable . Its the Ayrshire tractor club meeting on Monday night in Kilmarnock why not come allong mr Tullet will probabally be there if you want details contact me through E Mail I will give you his Telephone number there . Changing from 6v to 12v is a smart idea, you can retain the 6v starter in the conversion, but have to change the coil, dynamo and the fuse box beneath the battery. Keeping the 6v starter means it turns twice its original speed when starting, giving better starting performance and causing no damage. I did it with my TED and highly recommend the upgrade.
