I am the proud new owner of a model TEA Ferguson tractor built in England.

I was wondering what the TEA stood for and how old this tractor was.

The serial number is 377900.

Can anyone help me?

Welcome to TEA ownership! One thing you'll find out pretty soon is there is some confusion about the different models, so you have to watch it when sourcing parts.
TE20 meant Tractor built in England, model 20. It had a Continental engine.
TO20 meant Tractor built overseas (in the US), which also had the Continental engine.
TEA20 was built in England, but features an engine built by the Standard Motor Company. This motor was derived from the Standard Vanguard automobile engine, and later evolved into the engine found in Triumph TR2, 3 and 4 sports cars. TEA20s first started with 80 mm pistons, and later went to 85 mm, so they are known in some areas as 20-80 or 20-85s. Yours looks to be a '53 20-85 (28.2 hp), which is a good thing since the later models incorporate a number of improvements (hydraulic pump is one thing that comes to mind). There is lots of information around on the net if you do a bit of searching. I think (and I must stress THink), that the TEAs were mostly shipped to Canada. You mostly seem to find TOs in the US.

i'm in the uk any info on ted 20 no 183356? it has a 6 volt starter but i see a 12 volt battery on there i've only just brought the tractor home so its not running yet just wondered wwhat damage might be done using the 12 volt battery i intend to replace plugs points etc . any help greatfully receved

Tom, Your tractor was built in 1951, and has the petrol/paraffin engine. Your electrics should be 6 volt as 12 volt wasn't introduced until tractor serial number 250001. Lots of 6 volt tractors were converted to 12, and the fact you have a 6 volt starter motor shouldnt cause any problems. One tip though, when you've been running on TVO, always switch back to petrol before turning off the engine. The engine wont start on TVO, so you need your carb full of petrol for your next start.

If i am not mixed up TEA is the petrol / Gas engined variant TED is petrol /gas / tvo variant

ok Jim tom hogan has the TEA20 and mine is the TED20 Hope this clears up any confusion
and while i'm here i have some recipes for tvo using 4 gall heating oil 1 gall petrol& 1/5 pint 2 stroke oil does this sound right for the TED20
