timing gear removal

i have the block off my TO-35. i can't get the timing gear off the crankshaft! i have tried a gear puller and the gear won't give. anyone have any removal tips for me?

If you get desperate. You can pull the cam then beat the shaft thru the gear. Think you can unbolt the cam plate through the timing gear. Only try this with the engine upside down or your tapets will fall out.

i have a toyota corolla with a 4a-fe engine... i have problems on deciding what specs i should follow... i need to know whats the best gap/filler gauge setting on my tappets.. i want to adjust it so i can squeeze some more power. im badly in need of new specs.. can you e-mail me specs about my tapets.. i also want to know the best advance timing degree on my cams. i need every squeezed out power for my engine.. i want to take a second or two to my ET. i run 16.8 sec. 1/4 mile with only changing my filters to racing ones. thanx so much!!!

I used a gear puller on my TO30, and it worked OK. Once you have it cranked down real good, take a good whack at the center bolt (the one that presses against the camshaft end) with a big hammer. The shock might just pop it loose. I'd be a bit nervous with the crowbar, since it can crack/bend/damage the block, gear or cam. Worst case, take it to a machine shop and let them get it off.

It's the gear on the crank that's stuck, not the cam.

I just did this yesterday, although not on a Continental engine. I used a pry bar that just fit in behind and kind of leaned into it. I had to "persuade" it the whole way off; it was really tight. Once it moves though, you get motivated.
