Original 1952 Ferguson TO-30 paint??

My dad recently bought a 1952 Ferguson T0-30 at an auction and he is interested in restoring it to it's original paint color. It appears to be mostly grey, but the wheel flares (forgive me, I am not real good with the technical terms) seem to be painted blue, along with other misc parts. Can anyone help me find out what color(s) this tractor was originally and what parts should be what colors? thanks in advance,

Gray except the rear wheel rims were silver! per many experts I talked to at the Salem,IL EXPO recently.

You did a very nice job. This paint is expensive, but as you say, it is worth it if you want a really good job. It does not chip easily and covers very well and goes on well. When I did my tractor, a gallon of the NAPA paint, a gallon of proper thinner, and correct amount of proper hardener came to approximately $175. That price will scare many people away, but it's been 1.5 years now, and I use my tractor quite a bit and it looks pretty much the same, although a little dirty.

Phil,

I like your last line about being dirty. That's the nice thing about Fergies, they still work and get used often. I paid the same for my paint. With this paint I am not afraid to take it out and get it dirty or muddy, cause it always washes off so nice - ok, maybe I have waxed it a couple times too :)

It should be grey all over, pretty much what most people call Battleship Grey. You can find several examples in the tractor photos (link in left column) on this site. It is generally accepted by most of the folks on this site that the closest paint match is NAPA #99L 3740. Use it with the NAPA specified proportion of hardener and thinner. This is excellent paint, although it is expensive. The blue you are seeing on the rear fenders is probably from a previous owner with leftover paint from mid 1960s Ford tractors...? HTH.

Thank you for the information. I did find a couple of photos, but noticed that the tractor was being restored and wasn't sure if it was primer or the actual paint color. I will be sure to give my dad all the info regarding the paint #. I know this will help him a great deal.

I got my paint from valu built they sell it in gallon or spray can,its called ferguson gray.They also have the red oxide primer. They are on the web.
