TO-30 Electrical Woes

Well, my TO-30 finally arrived this weekend and despite the fact that I spent three solid days awakening it from its 15 year slumber in November, it is again giving me problems.

It is still set up as the standard 6 volt positive ground generator system and depites the fact that nearly every wire has been replaced, it thoroughly enjoys burning up wiring.

Yesterday I had it running, it starts very easily, for about 2 hours with no problems. Then, three hours later when I drove it out of the barn to show a friend, it promptly fried the safety switch to starter wire (2 gauge).

Has anyone else had this problem, perhaps the voltage regulator? Thanks for any help you can give.

Was it the starter end that got hot? If so take the starter apart and get a massive soldering iron, the old kind that you can heat with a torch and solder the main bus back onto the electrical stud. Happened to me when I let the stud turn a little tightening down the main cable. you don't wnat to put gas heat on the close soldering, hence the soldering iron.
