To-30 lift knocking

i have a smooth running to-30 that lifts just fine (as long as it's not too heavily loded) but knocks badly (the 3pt) under load. Is this possibly an indicator of too light of an oil, or is there potentially something more serious wrong??

thanks for the info. i had a really hard time convinving even my local MF dealer that there was a 80/90 et mineral oil available. after some discussion, one guy found the m1103 product (agco / MF) in the specs, but he couldn't find a number by which to order it. he eventually did. i think most people have been using the wrong stuff for a while, even in dealer's shops.

i'm going to take your advice and try to re-align the pump and get the correct oil back in there.

There are three drain plugs that must be removed to drain all the oil, one for each section, transmission, hyd system, and differiental. You need six U.S. gallons of oil to refill the entire system.

It's the nature of the beast to make a clunking sound when a load is put on the pump. If you ask a dealer/mechanic...he will probably tell you that it won't hurt anything or to try to line up the pump a little better to the pto shaft. I personally never saw one damaged from it. I think they all do it...some more than others. L8R....Fred OH

I agree with Fred. To align the hyd pump drain the oil and loosen the mounting bolts to finger tight so pump bottom plate can be moved by hand. Start tractor and engage pump; this will center the pump on the PTO shaft. Tighten bolts and replace hyd oil( 80/90W straight mineral oil). CAUTION! Do not remove or back-out the mounting bolts. You WILL damage the fork mechanism attached to the pump;it's made of stamped sheet steel and difficult to replace(If you can find a good replacement).
