I have a 1955 MF TO35 that is in almost perfect condition. I had to replace a cracked Manifold and have one more issue. The 3Point hitch raises and lowers fine, but drops quickly when I press in the clutch. I am told this is probably a weak control valve in the pump. Here is my question. I was told that I should drain the 80/90 and run diesel fuel through the system for a few minutes to clean it out and that this may correct the problem when I put new Oil back in. Has anyone had any experience where this worked.? Look forward to hearing back. Thanks Much, Joe, Houston TX

Not sure about the TO35. However, on my TO30 when it had the exact same problem as you describe I replaced the Check Valve, the one on the bottom at the back of the pump, and of course I flushed and replaced all the fluid too. That solved the problem.

Phil, Was it difficult to replace the check valve.? I was somewhat of a car hack when I was a teenager (30 years ago). Were there any "Gotcha" kinda of things you ran into.? How far do you have to tear the tractor down.?

Any insight you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks Joe

Again, I'm talking the 30, not the 35. No, it was pretty easy. On the 30, it is possible to replace it without draining the fluid, but I drained mine, in order to be able to reach from the bottom thru the drain hole at same time as I reached thru the side inspection hole. Using two hands was beneficial for me. Also, the fluid needed draining anyhow. The valve looks kinda like a spark plug. I believe it is an 11/16 size. A stubby wrench would help, at least on the 30. Look at your manual carefully.

I also have 1955 TO-35. My tractor has 2-stage clutch.
If clutch pedal is pushed only to first point of resistance , the hydralics and pto remains engaged. If the pedal is pushed to the bottom of travel , then the hydralics and PTO is disengaged. By the way, I like the tractor very much.

I Have two TO35s the same year as yours. I'm new at tractors and am very interested in how you correct your problem. I have a mans name living in Texas if you have not corrected this yet. If you will drop me an email I'll be happy to give you his number. Let me hear from you.
