First let me say that after I bought this gem, I got about 15 trouble free hours, then nothing but trouble. Okay, I've had the carburator rebuilt, replaced wires, plugs, coil, tinkered with the governor. Now I've replaced the distributor. Same problem, runs fine until she gets warmed up then she loses power under load (brush hogging). Add salt to the wound, she popped the distributor out bending the bracket that held it in place. Mechanic buddy says I need a overhaul (but wont touch it himself!). Says I'm losing compression when she gets hot. What do ya'll think?

Better talk to Big Dean about that distributor bracket bending...too much end play in the camshaft...probably the nut came off the end of it...requires removing the front end of tractor...new nut costs about $10 from dealer.

Check and see if you have spark when she dies. Dont rule out a bad switch.

Sounds like good old fasioned dirt to me , clean , flush and replace any gaskets , check that gas cap vent . I had mt tank epoxied on inside , sure helped .

First and foremost IS IT GETTING SPARK WHEN IT DIES, check coil and battery, switch ect. SECONDLY, IS IT RUNNING OUT OF FUEL. I can't overstate that enough with the simple gravity fed system and its often troublesome fuel bowl. I have fought with both my 20 and Farmall repeatedly. Never could get the farmall gas bowl to work for more than a few hours. Finally replaced the bowl and like a miracle the quitting stopped. They both acted just like what you describe. Before you do any wrenching remove the whole bowl and fuel line and assure its free. Check the tank for debris clogging the outlet including leaves ect that may be floating into the outlet occasionally. Make sure the tanks gas cap vent is free as well. The bowl seal ring can cause the stalling too. The 20 kept stalling out once in a while with a home made gasket untill I finally bought some. Chances are that your problem will be right there. I seriously boubt that your machine would run well at all if the rings were worn to the extent your friend says. Compression won't vary that much between hot and cold either.

Losing compression? Unlikely.

Is it losing any coolant? If it is, might be head gasket- otherwise, probably something simple- dirt in fuel, bad connection somewhere....valve adjustment, timing, etc.
