I have another problem. This time it is to do with the temperature guage. The problem is that the previous owner snapped of the end that goes into the thermostat housing. I have tried to remove it but it is completely stuck. Is there any way of removing it from the inside of the housing. If this fails i will be forced to pay �50 for a new housing

I had same problem with my TED20. I took the housing off and still couldn't budge it even with penetrating oil and heat (oxy propane). In the end it split the housing and I bought a new one from Old 20 Parts. If it wasn't a restoration I might have been able to stick the new thermostat sender back into the split housing with liquid metal or something. I may just have been unlucky.

Rick;
I don't know which tractor/engine you have but I
had the same problem with my TO-35 gas. I was
able to remove the sensor, but only after I pulled
the housing and had it on the bench. There are
only two bolts attaching the housing (if memory
serves) but the gas tank has to be removed to
access them. I was already at that point of
disassembly to adjust the valves so it was a good
time to replace the sensor.

I concur with Roger, once the thermostat housing is removed you can see the sensor from inside and pop it out. Also it's a good occasion to check and clean thermostat.
