To35 lift

have a 58 to35 that the lift works good untill it runs for a couple of hours then it lifts less and less until it can not be used. i have put rings in lift cylinder and changed oil(using napa brand oil that is correct)and relief valve.when had top cover off looking at pump seems like you could see some minor scoring on pump pistons.could this be the problem? Any idea's on what to look for would be appreciated.

Hi Rick -

Scoring on the pistons could aggravate the problem, but it's most likely the valves in the heads.

These little fellows get a lot of hammering, and eventually get fuzzy edges and seats.

The most satisfactory cure is a replacement of the valves and heads; pistons aren't that expensive and should be replaced at the same time. This will likely last the tractor for another 40 years.

There is a valve replacement kit available, but we've had bad luck with these. 4 sets, 4 failures due to failed o-rings.

Several different pumps used in these tractors; if you have the serial number, may be able to identify the pump. If not, you have to remove the pump to see which parts are needed.

jack thanks for the reply.i am not where i can see the serial # but it starts with 1798## best i can remember. it uses the late style pump that does not have a strainer.also was wondering if the 3 inch clyinder off of 60 model would bolt up.as close as i can tell the pump from the first few years of the mf35 was the same.i think i may order a pump rebuild kit from one of the advertisers on this page.thanks for your help!
