In my opinion the manuals that are available through the links to the left of this screen are the best available. I have the I&T and also the original (copy) from the supplier shown here. The I&T is good but the original is great. They are not cheap but they are well worth the cost.

I'm sure you will find that this discussion forum is a great place to get info. and the folks here are good people. We don't always get to respond as quickly as you may desire but most of us are hard working guys who spend a lot of time in the field.

Please try to support the vendors advertised here on this website as they help keep it going for us.

The serial plate above the steering wheel should give the model as TO or TE. If it is a TO-20, then serial number 40810 would make it a 1951 (see the link on the left of the screen for serial numbers). TO-20's were not made until 1948. The TE's were first manufactured in 1946.

One fast way to tell the difference between a TO-20 and a TE-20 is the type of hood latch. The TE's had two hood release handles, one on each side under the instrument panel. The TO's had one hood release handle, and that was under the instrument panel on the left side.

Ray, you'll need to find out real soon what the "s" is on the gear shift as it is how you start the tractor unless it has been modified.

Ray,

I presume you are in Oh based on the name you used. What part of the state are you in? The reason I ask is the I too have a 1948 TE20 SN40300. I am wondering if the same dealer sold both these tractors. Although 500 may be a lot for a single dealer, But I am fairly sure the tractors came over on the same boat and maybe the same train from the docks. Purly interest though.

I found it interesting that our tractors were probally made with in a day or two of each other.

Yes, I like the Ferg. alot. I am still experimenting with it. They seam very easy to work on. I have the I&T manual from TSC. It is a ok manual I have been tring to get info about the manuals offered here, however, reviews were not fourth comming.
