I'd much appreciate any suggestions that might help get my brother's TO35 running properly. We're out of ideas. The motor sputters on throttle up and has no power. You can slowly throttle up to about 1100 rpm but it cuts out after a moment. Idle has been a little rough but continuous. Things we've tried: rebuilt carb, cleaned tank, filter, fuel line (same problem occurs with auxiliary tank), plugs, condenser, points (gapped), cap, plug wires, and timed. The distributor is advancing but we can't get the rpm high enough to check it carefully. Engine compression is at about 100 psi, but even. We most recently replaced the coil but now are having trouble getting the engine started. My brother claims he lost power suddenly after hitting a bump while mowing? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This is the brother writing... Thanks for the suggestions, it turns out that it was the coil. We replaced the coil early on but it turns out that it was faulty/not right for the machine. We replaced it with a coil from a MF dealer and the machine runs well now- and it should seeing that we replaced/tuned up everything else while trying to figure out what was wrong.

double check your spark plug wires. If they're not on in the correct order, it will run fine at slow speeds but will do as you say when you rev it up. I can't remember the firing order for you but some one else here must remember. Let us know what you find.

Sounds like a problem I just had w/my TO-35. after about 20 hrs of tinkering I finally broke down & called the mechanic. He replaced the needle valve (stuck shut), voltage regulator,
& found a short in my ignition system. I don't know which one fixed the problem, but now she runs great. Hope this helps.
