Hydraulic adjusting arms

Hopefully I am using the correct terminology. I am talking about the two arms to which you attach a brush cutter. Looking from the rear the arm on the right has a crank. I'm sure this is to balance the height of both. On my 1954 TO 30 the crank just turns with no results. What May be broken inside? How do I fix? Where can I get a replacement, if necessary? Also what are chains used for on these arms?

Carl, the chains prevent excessive side-to-side movement-ie: hitting the rear tires. Always use stablizer bars to brace the hitch arms. The leveling box is used as you suspect, and new ones are available. Try the suppliers listed at left under Marketplace first, they support this website by their paid advertising. You may also use the search box by typing in Massey Ferguson then following the selections to the tractor part you need. If they can't supply what you need, try farmandcountry.com or this list.

Ray;
I've heard/read about stabilizer bars a few times
in earlier threads but I don't know wnat they look
like or how they attach or where to purchase. Can
you help? Thanks,
RogeR

All the major suppliers have them. The tractor parts places all sell them. Dealers have them. Just steel bars with slight reverse curve at ends and hole at each end. About 30 inches long. Cheap. But some do have better steel in them than others. Lengths vary tractor to tractor. The TO-20, TO-30, 9N / 8N Ford are all same length. Sometimes one side is all you really need (some will argue with that), but if using blade, and you back up with blade down, you will need stab. bar on both sides for sure to protect your lift arm assembly. Hope that helps.

Yep! they're readily available at most farm stores, just ask for catagory 1 stablizer bars to fit H. Ferguson and Ford 8/9N.

Thanks for the info guys. But, where/how do they
mount/attach? Or, is this obvious once I have
them in hand?

Thanks for all the info, Phil. I haven't had the
time to look things over on my TO-35 yet, but I'm
sure it'll all make sense when I do now that I
have this info.
