I thought I saw a posting a week or so ago concerning the oil pressure line from the side of the block going to the oil pressure gauge. The issue was noisy valves I think. Somebody implied there should be a 'T' connector in the oil line and goes to the head. My Shop Manual (repro) describes oil flow in the block and shows a passage up to the head internally. I got to thinking about my noisy valves and started poking. There is a plug on the head. I re-routed the line on the gauge from the block and put it to the head and plugged the block. No pressure !
Is the manual wrong ? Does my engine have a blockage inside ? Is there actually supposed to be a 'T' going to both the gauge and the head ?
The manual is vague in this area. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

Let me try to help; However, I just got home from work and I'm tired, so I hope I make some sense.

The oil pressure is supplied from the side of the block. Normally, you install the "T" at that point, and run two separate lines from there: one to the oil pressure guage, and the other one to the back of the head. This sends tons of oil to the rocker arms and such and still sends the reading to the guage.
If I'm not making any sense, or wrong, anybody feel free to jump in and correct it.

Thanks for the info. I guess I need to go get a 'T' connector and some fittings. The gauge wasn't even connected when I bought the tractor as my mid-life crisis (cheaper than a 'vette and still the envy of all my neighbors). Little by little I'm getting it back in shape.

I have a 51 TO30 that had that problem and Chuck recommended I try the T connector to the head port. It worked and I have all kinds of oil up there now. It lowered my gauge reading 5 lbs. but not to worry, the oil is still there. Be sure to use automotive connectors as regular pipe fittings don't work except out of the block port. I had a shop make up the new oil line and it looks like it was meant to be there.

I'll definitely try connecting all points together. I've bought the parts, just need the time. I'd be interested to know if the original engine was plumbed in this manner. Like I said, the shop manual that I have shows an internal passage up to the head. If you look carefully at the diagram, it sort of shows the external plug on the head.
