TO-30 temp gauge?

My TO-30 has working oil pressure and ammeter gauges. It also has a temperature gauge which looks like an "add-on" because it just isn't as old. The gauge does not function because the sensor wire and what looks like a sensor is coiled up behind the dash panel. The sensor looks like a small copper tube and looks like it would go "into" the block or water jacket somewhere BUT it is NOT threaded. Any ideas about how this could be made functional? If not, can anyone tell me where I can get a temp gauge for this tractor that will "bolt" in place?

Mike - you should find a hex headed plug in the left side of the cast iron pipe attached to the top of your water pump. This is the pipe that the top radiator hose attached to. The engine temperature regulator is supposed to be inside this area.

On the end of the tubing on the temp. gage you should find a copper "bulb". This bulb is about 3/8" diameter and about 3/4" long. The bulb should fit into the hole where the hex plug is. You may have to use a 3/8" diameter drill bit (by hand) to ream out the crud in the hole. There should be a new male threaded nut on the tubing supplied with the temp. gage. This nut will screw into the hole after you insert the bulb.

I had to use some Permatex on mine to seal a small leak. Works perfectly.

Mine has the same setup. The temp bulb goes in a threaded hole in the water pump and has a fitting with a seal holding it. It sounds like yours has lost the fitting. A MF dealer should have the right stuff to fix you up. If not, almost all internet tractor parts companies have a replacement (not nos, just replacement).

Hello Mike
When I purchased my T0-30, the dash had a blank stamped into it, but it was not punched out. It is amazing to me that a temp guage would be considered optional. I'm guessing it was. I emailed two photos of my guage and the sensor location. The guage type is exactly the same "look" as the rest of my guages. Don't know if they are origional or not. Purchased through Pittsburg Tractor, Pittsburg Texas. 903 856 6548. The guage they sold me was an exact fit, right length pipe with correct fittings. Sorry have lost receipt with the part number.
