I've had what I suspect is low gas flow from gas tank with lots of sand in my sed bowl, I pulled the tank to flush it & heard something bangin around in there. Spent about a half hour looking for cause but coudn't see anything (partitions in the way). I put her back & she runs great for a few minutes then starts popping & coughing, like she's starving for fuel. Any thoughts from out on the cyber-farm?

I had something clanging around in the gas tank of my TO20 when I was flushing it out. I was having trouble figuring out what it was because it too was on the other side of the baffle. After much shaking around I finally saw it and was able to get it out. It was the top of a glass milk bottle... Maybe this is what kept the tank as clean as it is for the past fifty years!

More than likely you have a baffle broken loose. I have seen this a few times on older fergies. Afriend of mine rebuilt a 35 and opened up the tank and welded them back in, but be VERY cautious of welding on any type of fuel storage vessel

There's a strainer/fuel tap that is inside the tank that could be broken off. It fits on the intake of the fuel strainer and has two levels, one is higher and is in the fuel circuit when the petcock is opened about two turns. The other is closer to the bottom of the tank and operates when the petcock is fully opened. The second tap serves as an auxillary supply because Fergusons weren't supplied with fuel gauges. When you run out of fuel on the first, open up the petcock fully and you have two more gallons of fuel.

I have the same thing in the tank of my TO30; except it never stopped the fuel flow. It sounds metallic and I went nuts trying to figure it out. Finally gave up because it wasn't causing any problems. BTW, I'm still in the market for a Z129 block. Mine has about a gazillion cracks. Anybody got one?
