TO30 cotter pin usage by oil drain

what is the purpose of the cotter pins that stick out located by the drain plugs of both the engine oil and transmission oil. oil slowly drips from these pins. thanks.

As explained it is there to keep the hole free of any blockage. It is a weep hole for the hydro fluid, an occasional drip is fine and normal, but a constant heavy drip means seals are bad in transmission. Don't even consider buying a tractor with one that has been welded shut, they are covering up a problem.

it is just to keep the hole open it will turn and move when some thing hits it like tall grass. thats it

I too had knowticed the pin sticking out of the hole and wondered if it came loose from some where. Simple logical solution again by H.F.
