To-20 head on a to-30

i was wondering if a to-20 z-120 head will fit and work on a to-30 z-129 motor? my to-30 is acting up to where it runs good for awhile then starts missing and losing power. good gas flow, clean air, good electrical. front top end of the motor is noisy, sounds like its in the rocker arms. any sugestions. thanks randy

The answer to your question is Yes, it will go right on, but like Ray said, check for other things while you have the head off. I would study the governor assembly also. Also, are you getting enough oil to your head? See if there is an oil line going into the back of the head from the oil line coming out of the block where your oil pressure guage connects. If not, simply tee off from the block and run a line up to the head. Makes a world of difference. Check the archives.

I'd remove the valve cover pan and inspect the valve springs, rocker arm shaft, and clean the oil passages first. A compression check should be performed to complete the initial evaluation too. You may then use this information to plot a course of action. If your cylinder head is cracked, you'll notice oil in water, water in oil, overheating, white smoke in exhaust, etc.-one or more symptoms may appear. I suspect the head is not the problem though. Keep us posted!

hi guys, checked out and screwed around with the distibutor today, had a heck of a time to get it all set again, but when i did it started right up ran with the brush hog for a few minutes, and it started dying out. i really think that the coil is breaking down. tommorow i'll get a new one. as for the head. once i get it running better, i'll pull off the valve cover and take a look at the rockers, and do a compression test too. thanks again randy
