My recently acquired Ferguson TO-35 gas (1956) had oil pressure in the mid range of the gauge when I bought it - the oil pressure gage was the only one working due to 12V alternator conversion - all the others are disconnected.

Anyways, since the oil was black, I did an oil change. I did not use a genuine Massey Ferguson oil filter, rather I bought one from NAPA that is supposed to be a substitute (1010, I think), although it did not have the soft ends of the massey filter, it had aluminum or steel ends. After installation, I started up, and oil pressure seemed OK.

Several days later sarted it up to do some mowing, and oil pressure level is way low, down to almost zero. Plenty of oil in the crankcase - it was full, and no leaks. Does anybody know why this would happen? Is it related somehow to my filter change? There was a spring in the filter can, but no other gaskets or washers.

Did you go to a lighter weight oil? Like 20 wt. or 5-30, for example? Maybe it had 50 wt. in it.

Not sure what was in it, but it was black. Put in standard straight 30 weight.
