51 ferguson TO-30
12 volt conversion

I have only owned this tractor for about 4 months so I do not know alot about them. This is what happened. I was running the tractor and i hit some bumps and the tractor stalled. I started it but it quickly quit on me. I started it again and it would only run when i pulled the choke out. I have so far:
Cleaned bowl
drained carb
Cleaned small (filter) above bowl
Dry gas
Removed high and low jet screws to see if any dirt was there
******What should the amp meter read? I thought mine was always at 0, but now when i rev the engine it pegs out at 13?

Please help,
Mike

Main jet in carb could be crudded up. That's the one that is hard to get out without a slim deep socket, although sometimes needlenose vice grips will work. If you go there, make sure all its orifices are clean. But before you remove carb, check to see if when you hit the bump you didn't knock something else loose, like a plug wire, etc. In other words, make sure choking, i.e., adding more gas, isn't hiding an electrical problem. If your amp meter reading changed at the same time, that makes me even more suspicious of a wiring problem. Of course, too much air, like from a manifold leak, will make it necessary to add more gas, e.g., by choking, but from what you said, i'm betting that's not it unless whatever you hit broke the manifold.

I had problems like that to. Mine came from the fact that the gas tank was full, and I do mean full of crud. I pulled the carb, no problem there except a ever so tiny tear in a gasket, went up the line, no full in the fuel line, sediment bowl was clean, the housing for the sediment bowl strainer was rotted off, gas tank had two pounds of nuts, bolts gravel, dirt etc. Cleaned, had it resealed, spent $50 on the tank, found thengine was set up but hard, rebuild head $300, including gasket set, new radiator, now getting ready to put back together. Ant chance you know where a grill would be?

Did you get a good fuel flow with the glass bowl off? Some times you can get crud up in the top intake of the fuel bowl inside of the tank. Also make sure you are not low on fuel (I have missed that befor) You can use a 1/4 inch rubber hose and blow air with your mouth up into the place the fuel comes down into the bowl from the tank to clear it. You may be charging at a higher rate since you have probly started it over and over and cranked it for a while with out running it long enought to charge it back up. Mark H.
