I just started to take what I thought was a cap off of the PTO on my '51' TO-30 that I purchased last summer. It started to lose oil as I was pulling the cap. I take it that I do not have a PTO shaft. This year and model was designed with a PTO, Right? Where do I go to fix my problem, and is it going to be cost prohibited to fix? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Just curious but, did you take the PTO cap all they way off and actualy see that there was no PTO or did you just start having oil leak out as you where removing it and then stop? The cap can fill up with oil if you have a leaky PTO seal so you could have a PTO with a cap full of oil. Mine does. It doesn�t leak a bit with the cap on but has a slow leak with it off. Just a thought.

With out the PTO Shaft you would not have a Hydralic Lift working to? If that works maybe your shaft end is broke off of the shaft? Do you just drive this tractor pulling something? Mark H.

For some reason my first post did not post. In any event, if you have removed the cap and no pto shaft is sticking out of the back of the tractor, then you need to install a pto shaft. It is rather simple. You can buy the complete shaft assembly together with seals etc for about $125.00 from your local Massey/Ford tractor dealer. Remove your cap and drain the tran/hyd fluid into a 5 gallon bucket. The replacement shaft should slide right and be bolted at the back with the four bolts. Replace the fluid through the fill hole located next to your shift handle on the tranny, and you should be in business.

I forgot to tell you to put a five gallon bucket under the rear end to collect the transmission/hydraulic fluid. You will also need to buy 6 gallons of replacement fluid, once you replace your PTO assembly. Should be a piece of cake. Email me if you have questions.
