TO-20 positive ground and ignition problems

i just bought a to-20 , the battery was old so i replaced it. not relizing it was a positive ground. i put the battery in wrong. i did not get any spark. i havent yet tried to start with the battery hooked up correctly. my questions are as follows: after several minutes of cranking the motor have i caused any problems, with the battery being hooked up wrong? also is there a test i could proform on the coil to make sure it is still good?

You likely didn't do any damage to the electrical system. For no spark, begin checking at the key switch and check for voltage. Follow the wiring checking at each connection, insuring that the hot wire is not grounded anywhere. Inside the distributor assertain that the points and the wire to the coil isn't grounded, this wire will wear at the hole through the distributor housing and short. If all is proper to the coil on the 6V side, check the coil and dist. cap including rotor for cracks, oil film, burned contacts and anything else that may cause lack of contact. The coil may be tested at your local auto parts store.
