Over the weekend I went out to change to motor oil and filter. I had the new filter form NAPA and drained the oil. I then removed the center nut on the oil pan but the cover plate did not readily come off. I was reluctant to start prying.

So just how do you get at the oil filter on a Z120 engine? I removed both nuts but the next step was not obvious.

THanks
Jeff

Mine was welded on! Had to drop the whole pan to change the filter. Hope yours isnt the same.

Normally the large cover on the bottom of the pan drops off once you take the center bolt off. You should be able to see a thick rubber gasket between the bottom of the pan and the cover on the pan. Gasket is available from MF part # 1750269M1 price as of last year $2.87 US.
If you need to pry the cover off it may be glued on with RTV or something similar. Good luck!

Thanks,

I figured the plate should come off but with out any knowledge of gaskets least having one on hand, I did not want to start prying and banging on it.

I will now take the sledge to it merrily :~)
