Tach cable for TO-35

Tach on my TO-35 was shot so I got a replacement.Now my problem is where does the cable connect to. The old one was not there when I purchased the tractor. Will an auto cable work or does it have to be original from the dealer?

Slowpoke...the cable attaches to the back of the generator....theres a little gearbox assy. there that it screws into....that is if you have the original type. If it has been changed to an alternator or different generator...you would be just as well off buying an electronic tachometer. Might be kinda hard to find one that fits in the 2" or so opening in the dash though. The original type is still available (I think) but are expensive to buy...That's your options.
