I have completed the restoration of my 55 to-35. The motor has a new head and valves, and compression 100 lbs per cyl. Does not smoke. It reads 20 lbs cold and 15 lbs hot oil pressure at idle. It has a new manifold and muffler. The question I have is it seems noisy at full throttle (1700 rpm). Its not a knock, just noise. The manual says quiet valves are too tight valves. Just how much noise should I expect?

I just re-built my 55 TO 35's Z134, it's got 23 psi oil pressure @ idle, and, I've got the same problem. I just put a new exhaust on it, and, the valves are louder than the rest of the machine at any rpm. I've re-adjusted the valves a few times, but, it just doesn't get any quiter. They may have been quieter before I re-built it, but, I frankly don't remember...

My Z-134 had a burnt valve in the #1 cylinder. I suspect the previous owner over tightened the valves to try to solve this very problem. Many years ago we had a z-120 and I remember it seemed quieter.
