I got the bad news yesterday from the machine shop. Besides a rebuild, there are cracks between every cylinder. Cost to fix; $2100. Does anyone know of a source that sells rebuilds? Quality has them for $1900 exchange, but I'm looking for possibly a less expensive way.
BTW, I live near Modesto CA, about 75 miles south of Sacramento.

Chuck,

You have a common problem from what I understand. My local Massey dealer in Belchertown MA drills and threads the block and uses bolts to draw the cracks together tight enough to save the block. According to him his dad pioneered the procedure. I've heard others use the same remedy. I'll bet Big Dean would know how to do it.

289 Ford V8 five bolt bellhousing will fit with some work. Did it to mine 8 years ago runs GREAT!!!!!

Now I have heard of that, but never ever found anyone that had ever done it. What engine did you use and do you have a picture of it completed. This is real interesting.

It has to be a 221, 260, or 5 bolt bellhousing 289 ford engine. The 289's 65 and newer have a 6 bolt housing and that won't work. The biggest problem I had was cooling. Mine has a belly mower under it and it is a daily user. I ended up with the hood, grill, and radiator from a 930 Case diesel before my temperature problems were completly solved. I don't have a digital camera so a picture is tough. It fits in there so nice that most people don't even notice it. Takes 2 hours and less gas to mow my 7 acre lawn than the Z120 did. To explain how I fit it in would take me an hour and several pages. I'm calving now and can't take that kind of time, but I can sure answer questions between calves. I live in SD and you're welcome to come and look. I havn't had time to paint it up so it is not real pretty,but it has potential to be a showstopper!
