Please tell me the difference between the TE20's and TEA20's.

Is the difference the engine make? Cont. vs. Std.?

I believe I have a 1947 TE20. Based on the serial number. I got this tractor last fall and have been servicing it for the spring. I called NAPA for an oil filter and they have a different one for the TE and TEA's.

The TE is spec'ed at
4.188" tall
4.25" O.D. and
.552" I.D.

The TEA is spec'ed at
6.090" Tall
2.620" O.D. and
1.258" I.D.

I do not know which one to get. And as I am not near the tractor I cannot visually look at the cover plate. I hope knowing the TE vs TEA will help.

Hello Jeff,
the TE [1946-8] had the Conti Z120 engine. the TE B was the narrow version.
the TE A & TE C,D,E,F,H,J,K etc etc [1947-56] had the Standard petrol, kero or diesel engines.
Standard made the Triumph sports cars with the same engine in the 4 cyl versions.
TE stands for Tractor England.
i believe this applies to the UK & Commonwealth countries.

I believe the TEA20 is the only one that has the steering housing and transmission cover in one single casting. I know mine has an aluminum alloy gearbox housing, but don't know if that's special to TEA20.

Very few TEA's were sold in USA , most were produced for the British market and Canadian as well . Most , but not necesarily all, American Fergies used the Continental engine . The Standard or Coventry engine used in TEA's is actually a Triumph engine , with it's basis from the TR4 sports car. They are not hard to tell apart , once you identify what you,ve got.

I've got a 1949 TEA which lost its Standard engine in the misty past. Someone stuffed a 120 Continental into it. I've been told it shouldn't work, but it's not the only one that I've seen. I think there is about an inch difference in length. Extra spacers are needed to set the axle in the right position. They also disposed of the braces under the engine. My problem is that the Continental engine now seems to be shot, so I am trying to be creative with a replacement. Does anyone know how a Jeep engine would fit? Old timers say that Jeep engines bolt to Ford trannies and visa versa?

If the oil filter housing is external (on the left side) it's a Standard engine, which makes it a TEA20.
If you could let me know the NAPA # for the oil filter for the TEA I'd appreciate it.

Napa 1107 fits TE and TO20 with Continental engine. If your oil filter is inserted thru the bottom of the pan it should be a TE20 with Cont. engine.

My oil filter is bottom center. The access/drain like the tran/hydrolic oil main drain. The NAPA numbers are

TE 20 - 1107
TEA 20 - 1157

They are in their cross reference book under Massy-Ferg. at the end of the tractor section as TE/To/TEA alph. comes after MF.
