Like Ken said, non-detergent 30W above 50,20W below 50, 10W only when consistantly below 10 deg. Straight mineral oil(no additives)80/90W. If you have rebuilt the engine and installed all new seals you may consider detergent oil, otherwise, it will slowly deteriorate the original seals in the the engine. Some will argue to use detergent oil anyway. My position is this: your tractor is doing well now and has been for the last 50+ years on non-detergent oil why mess with a change now, it will dislodge sludge in the engine and cause problems like stopping up oil passages and ruining the engine. Dad bought a TO30 in 1952, I bought it from him in 1989, it runs well and uses no oil. The engine has never been taken apart for anything except a new valve cover gasket.

Ray-

That's nice that you've been able to keep it in the family like that. Knowing all the history of the tractor would be a real plus.

Dillon-

Are you talking about engine oil or hydraulic oil?
For engine oil, the original manual says to use SAE30W above 50 degress F, SAE20W below 50 degrees, and SAE10W below 10 degrees F. But that was before the many oils which are available today. I use 10W30 motor oil. Also the manual says to use straight mineral oil in the hydraulic system. I use straight mineral oil, 90 wt. from my local Massey dealer (#M1103). But stay tuned, thay was also before many of the hydraulic oils they use todasy. I'm sure there will be plenty of opinions on straight mineral oil.
