on my ferguson 40 it will start then die and won't start again for several hours unless ether is sprayed in air cleaner and given full choke, and still then will only run until ether is burned up. there is plenty of gas going into carb. any help on fixing it will be helpful.

If it runs with ether, then there is no fuel getting thru the right jets, most likely they are all gummed up. Bowser gave good advise. You have an idle jet clogged, and by giving it some throttle and full choke you are creating a mix that will run.

I believe that you have a fuel blockage problem.Try taking the fuel line loose at the carburetor and see if you have fuel coming from the fuel tank to the carburetor,if you have fuel coming to the carburetor, there has to be blockage in the carburetor.Take the carburetor apart and soak it for 24 hours in laquer thinner and use compressed air to blow out all the passage ways in the carburetor.I would not recomment the use of stating fluid in trying to start a gasoline engine
