What is the normal oil pressure for a fairly tight Z129?

Look in the valve cover, if oil is making it up to the rocker arms when it is warm, you have enough oil pressure. My oil pressure gauge works every once and a while (quite rusty).

That's really hard to say, the pump relief valve opens at 30psi so that's the max. The original gauge is not very accurate and has no graduations, the old H.Ferguson mechanic I know says as long as the gauge is registering some pressure not to be concerned. My gauge stays in the middle of the dial when above idle speed and drops to the bottom of the normal zone at idle,if this helps. When I get aroundtuit I should check the pressure with a test gauge to find out- but what the hey- it's worked for 49 years now. I overhauled my z129. Turned the shaft, new bearings, total overhaul. Like you say, the oil guage goes to the high end of the middlewhen cold and low end of middle when hot. Wish the guage had numbers on it.

I had an old timer tell me before I overhauled mine that as long as the guage shows any pressure, the engine will be fine.

Thanks for the comments guys. I guess mine is in the ballpark. For some reason I put in Stewart-Warner guages when I rebuilt the old gal and it is running right at 30 lbs. Now I can rest assured that when my wife goes out to plow snow she won't have any problems!!
