No sign of a serial number on my Farmall 130 so we are on to casting numbers.

The one set that has the format that Glenn mentionsed is: 22*8. I am not sure about the * (it could be something else). The eight might be a B. Any suggestions as to what the date code might mean?

Other casting numbers are 351887-R8 and 357657R5 which has a L about an inch below and to the right.

Hi Glenn, Give me what part these casting numbers are off of and I'll look and see if there correct for a 130. I checked with what was given but there wasn't a part match but that don't mean it's not listed under a sub-group part number.

Thanks, T_Bone
351887-R8 was from, I think, the main structure of the the tractor. I guess it might be called the torque tube.
357657R5 which has a L about an inch below and to the right, is from the Touch Control cylinder block.
I am afraid that I am away from home for the holidays and so can’t check. I may have these reversed.
Merry Christmas, Glen

Hi Glen, You'll have to look when you get back home as the numbers given do not go with a 130. I even searched part numbers on several connecting pieces and no luck. You might want to give an engine casting number and maybe we can go from there.

Hi again,

The numbers with the R in them are part numbers. The number you described as 22*8 or 22*B is indeed a casting code. It should be a B. The B indicates the year 1956, and the 22 indicates the day of the month(in this case, 22nd). There should be another number before the 22 with what kinda looks like a screw head between the two numbers. That will tell you the month. You may want to check some more castings for date codes(like the wheels or the engine block). They will be similar to the one you found in terms of format.

It looks like your 130 is a 1956 model, which was the first year of Farmall 130 production. There were only about 600 130s produced in 1956.

Thanks Glenn,

I'll have to wait till I get home after Christmas to check for more codes and see if there is another number before the 22*B. We are off to my step sister's for the holidays.

There is a metal tag on the engine block down near where the oil pan seal is. Unfortunatly it is painted over and I will have to clean it off. There doesn't seem to be any stamped numbers on it so I am a little concerned that if I use paint thiner it will take off any painted informaiton.

Merry Christmas, Glen
