I just recently purchased a Farmall 130. The manual that I picked up says that the "Tractor serial number is stamped on a plate and on series 100, 130, and 140, the plate is attached on left side of clutch housing." No sign of such a plate on my tractor. Any suggestions as to how I can Identify my tractor? Can someone tell me the dimentions of the Identification plate on their 130 or 140.

Try checking the casting codes on the major castings of the tractor(engine, transmission, etc.). They should look something like this:

12*31*D

where the * represents something that looks like the head of a screw. Post your findings so we can date your machine and hopefully identify the model of your machine.

Are you sure it is a 130? If it is another model it could be someplace else. Just a thought.

I'm pretty sure. It has the 130 badges. If it was a 100 or a 140 according to the manual they had the serial numbers in the same place. Looks wise it is a 130 or a close cousin.

Thanks Dan 130 and Bus Driver. I'm still at a bit of a loss! I don't see anything at all. I was thinking that if it was paint covered I would see the outline and if it was missing I would see the holes for the securing rivots. If it was an aluminum plate say 2.5" by 1.5" I thought that I would at least see the attaching holes for the rivots or screws at where the corners had been. Can either of you tell me how big the plate is and how it was fastened? Thanks Again, Glen

It is maybe 2x4 and held with rivets. Any chance it is really a Super A? Look on the left seat support for a serial plate. If nothing to be found, start looking for casting date codes to confirm approximate year model and additional clues as to what model it is.

I had a look for casting numbers.

The one set that has the format you mention is: 22*8 I am not sure about the * (it could be something else). The eight might be a B.

Other casting numbers are 351887-R8
and 357657R5 which has a L about an inch below and to the right.

The date codes look more or less like (+12.23.B+), this example being Dec 23, 1956. Some times they are hard to read. Your 22.B is probably the tail end of one. That would be from '56 and makes sense for a 130. The other 2 long numbers you quoted are part number, which don't help much. I don't knoe the meaning of the L by itself. I have seen it and some other mystery marks on other castings.

A few more date codes should help you confirm the year.

Hi Glenn. I also have a 130. My serial number was where it was supposed to be ( on the left side of the clutch housing) but it had at least 2 layers of paint on it. I took paint remover to just the plate and was able to get the number. It's a 1957. Maybe someone else will know of another location on the tractor where a serial # might be. Good Luck !

The plate is aluminum. Careful with chemicals on it. Mine is eaten almost away, probably from fertilizer used by PO.
