I own a 1975 IH 3600a loader backhoe with a D-282 engine. I need injectors and have been unable to locate them. Any ideas on how much they cost? Do you buy just the tips or the whole unit? Should you replace the cups under the injector (some erosion)? Can I check compression by threading the tester into the glowplug hole? I know the injectors have a poor spray pattern and open early with some bleeding but I don't want to spend the money if the compression is low. Except for some smoking it runs well, has good oil pressure, no oil leaks (except the @#$@ hydrostatic transmission)and starts well in cold weather -30 with a circulation heater, oil pan heater, and three hail mary's (no ether). Anyway, your comments and advice would be appreciated. Oh yeah one other problem --> the steering is hard in one direction with a full bucket depending on the location of the loader arms, once they go up so high the steering returns to normal. There is some sort of flow divider and a type of shuttle valve. I took the shuttle off thinking it was sticking but i really couldn't see anything wrong with it (no wear, no dirt etc..) Don't know, back to the drawing board.

Thanks Glenn.

p.s. love this site

Hi Glenn, You can buy just the nozzle for the injector. Most problems comes from carbon build up between the injector body and nozzle.

You can use the injector hole but the cost of the fitting's would not be cost effictive and it's a bunch easier to ckeck at the injector port, correct?

On diesel's white exhaust is bad compression, blue is rings and valves.

That's all for now!
