What size tire, in today's size specs, would be correct for a 1950 H? I'm ready to buy, and I'm being told a lot of different things!

They came with different sizes. How wide is your rim? Read the sidewall of a new tire. It will say something like "12.4-38 on an 11" rim." That is OK on a 10" rim but don't go more than 1" over the sidewall label for an original look.

My cost on an 11.2 38 4ply field & road is aproximately 175$ the tube is aproximately 15$ and the mounting, if the tires are dry and rims are good, would be 1 hour of service or 35$; or 415$ for a new pair mounted

Grant: Guy Fays book stated 10x38 standard for the '39 to '52 H. I kinda think the 11.2 took that place. Red's the expert on H's but back in the 40's and early 50's most didn't put too large a tire on as they do now.( if your trying to match the 1950 look) harvey

I just put a set on the rear of my 1940 H this summer. I was told that 11.2-38 was the best match for the original 12-38. They look great. I would have to run out (and it's darn cold right now so I am not) and check the name, but they are Goodyears and I bought them at Superior Coach Sales in Perrysville Ind. New tires, tubes and mounting was just a couple bucks over $400. By far the cheapest place I have ever found Goodyears at. Incredibly nice people as well. Phone number is 1-800-231-8895. Dick Crist is in charge and they are in West Central Indiana, Just off exit 4 on I-74.

They might be 11.4-38 instead of 11.2-38. I won't swear to it, but either way it is one of the two and they only make one size or the other. They sure do look "correct" though. I am very pleased. Hope this helps.

Have a nice day, Doug.

And before you put the tires on the rims, wire brush the rim, smooth rough spots, and paint it (on the side where the tube touches the rim). I use a zinc chromate primer. Let the paint dry for a good two weeks.

Then use lots of talcum powder on the tube.

I know that is a long time but you'll thank yourself the next time the tire comes off. And it may be longer before it comes off.
