I have the opportunity to buy a Farmall A with a cultivator and two bottom plow for $1150. It supposedly is a '46 model. From what I've seen, this is a reasonable price if the tractor is in any decent kind of shape. Can I use this small tractor to tend about 8-10 acres of hilly Tennessee pasture. I will mainly use to tow sprayer, till garden (1 acre) and some mowing. Can anyone suggest a good belly mower which can be used on the "A"? My mechanical skills are somewhat limited. Thanks.

You must have the belt pulley attachment to use the Woods Mower on the A. I used a Woods mower on a Super A and then a 140 for more than 20 years. The main problem with the A is the hand lift. A Super A with the hydraulic lift would be a better choice in my opinion. But then a good Super A is going to cost a lot more than the A.

A Woods L59 60" belly mower seems like it was designed for a A. You can watch the classifieds or check out Woods web site. They are readily available with ample parts. A lot of equipment dealers are authorized Woods people. With the right brackets the are very easy to install. I do assume you have the hand lift? If the tractor is in pretty good shape that's a fair price. Bill {Antique Acres}

What would it require to put a belly mower on a "A"? I have a '41. It has a PTO and draw-bar, but that is it; it is a bare-bones tractor.

would all of the lift stuff and brakets ect come with the mower?

A Woods L59 is what I have on my 1941 A and it works fine. It is a 5 foot one; however I wish now that I had listened to the dealer and bought a 6 foot one. It plays with the 5 foot one. Also wanted to advise you that the lift arm comes with the L59 when purchased new; mine did. It only took a couple hours to install it and start mowing! I mow 4.5 acres about every 4 days! God luck!
