My Super-A manual only has info on magneto ignitions systems. I recently removed, cleaned and reinstalled the drive housing that the distributor mount to. It was full of grimy gritty greasy stuff. There is a filler plug on the side. I'm wondering if that was suppose to be oil that has gummed up over the years. Any body out there with a newer manual that can tell me about what to put in there?
Thanks

I took my distributor apart and the shaft going through the distributor, with the plug on top, is a self lubricating bronze bushing. Grease may not be able to permeate down through as well as oil.
Grease sounds good for the gear box/drive housing but the reservior look it has still confuses me.

But don't leave the zerks in. It may be too tempting to overgrease. Two shots twice a year is enough.

I keep a zerk on the end of a 1/8-inch pipe nipple and coupling so I can put it in and remove it easily and relatively cleanly.

Chris has it right. There's a pair of pipe plugs with slotted heads on the distributor drive. Unscrew the plugs and screw a couple of zerks in their place. Give each zerk a couple shots of gun grease (but not more than a couple shots or you'll regret it later!). Finally remove the zerks and replace the plugs.

On my Cub distributor, which is similar if not identical to yours, I screw in grease zerks (I have two grease locations) and pump in good old chassis grease. One grease point is on the skinny neck, and the other is on the gear housing. The magnetos, I believe, have little cups that you'd put a few drops of engine oil in. Chris

I should have said I have a battery ignition system. The magneto system does'nt have that filler hole.
