Cub low on oil pressure

i have a '52 cub that i have been starting to use again. it has been on our farm for its whole life, and was unfortunately neglected about the past 10-15 years while i wasnt living there. i really couldnt tell when the last time the oil was changed in it, but i know it was at least 10 years. so when i changed the oil, it was very sludgy. also, the drain pipe coming off from the filter housing was filled with oil that was the consistancy of grease. i had to take a long screwdriver up the pipe to get the oil to drain out. i put a new radiator on it, and it starts up and runs initially very well with good oil pressure. however, after about 15-20 min running it at an idle, the oil pressure drops almost down into the red. i had changed the oil last fall and have only run the cub for 3 or 4 hours since then, and already the oil on the dipstick is almost jet black. are these two things related? should i put some kind of treatment in the oil to help clean things out? i would appreciate any suggestions you could give me. thanks.

Does anyone know what happened with this?

I Have a '51 cub that has the same problem - it starts up with high oil pressure and after about 15 min the oil pressure drops almost down into the red.

Did you use detergent oil or non-detergent oil. It sounds to me like you had a cub that was running non-detergent oil in it since there were large sludge deposits. Now that you changed the oil you probably put in detergent oil since it is the standard oil. What this means is that you are now starting to break free all of that sludge that is built up in that motor. I feel you should pull the pan and the valve cover inspection plate and thoroughly clean it. Most likely you have a plugged pickup tube for the oil pump. Drop the pan, get a screw driver and some solvents and start cleaning. Also, you will have to REGULARLY change the oil and the filter due to the extra slime and deposits that will now be circulating your system. Hopefully your bearings have not suffered too much damage due to the lack of proper oil. IF all of this does not result in higher oil pressure than further work may be required. Give it all a cleaning and report back what you find.

It would be a good idea to do what "p" recommends. Here's another thing. Early Cubs had a oil filter cover made of white metal. These had a tendency of loosening up after an oil change. The result was that the oil pressure would drop. Re-tightening would do the trick (never over tighten). Later Cubs had a cast steel cover and many older Cubs were converted. The white metal covers were smooth and the cast steel had a ridge around the perimeter. An old IH service man told me about this years ago; the '48 Cub I grew up with had the white metal and was prone to loosing oil pressure (I always carried the right wrench). Good luck.
