W6 Belt Pulley size?

I have a W6 that has a belt Pulley on it that is 9" wide by 12 1/2" in diameter. Held on by 8 bolts. I thinking this is the wrong pulley possibly for a W9? The pulleys I've seen for M's are 7" wide and 11" in diameter. My pulley needs repairing and I'm thinking to look for one used. Thanks!

My 6 series parts catalog lists the 11 inch diameter by 7 1/2 inch face as the standard pulley for the W6. That is the same as the standard M pulley. There are 10 special pulley sizes listed from 6 1/2 inch diameter all the way up to 15 inch diameter. Most of the special ones have 8 1/2 inch face, but some have the 7 1/2 inch face. Several of them show to have 8 hole mounting. My catalog is dated 1947. What pulley you use depends on the pulley size on the implement and how fast the implement you are driving needs to run. So about any pulley size that fits on the flange can be called correct.

Old pulleys often don"t measure the exact same as IH listed size. Standard for a W6 is 11 inch diameter and 7-1/2 face. Optional size is near what you have, 13 inch diameter with 8-1/2 face. Even though your pulley may be listed as the correct one to use on the tractor for some uses by IH at sometime over the years, the ones with 8 mounting holes didn"t come out until after W6 was out of production. You may be able to find a number on the center near bolt holes to ID unit.

Part no. is 58524. I don't really need a pulley for the restore, it will just be for looks.

I was wrong, that is the optional special pulley for a W6 and it does have 8 holes. They must have used the 8 hole before farmall tractors did.

Don't have the info at hand, but may "somewhere" in some of my old IHC brochures. Belt-driven machines required a certain "belt speed" (feet-per-minute) to run properly, not overspeed, etc.
I know it was possible to get different sized pulleys for the machines (threshers, ensilage choppers/blowers, etc.). I do happen to have an H/M brochure handy. The pulley listed for the M is 11 X 7-1/2". The belt speed is 2588 feet-per-minute at 899 rpm (1450 engine rpm). There is no mention of other pulley sizes, but it may have been possible to get another size by special order.
