OK, my brother in law just gave me his old tractor. It says IH 454 on it. The button on the PTO shaft that hold it to the PTO was missing. Went to Tractor Supply, they sold me a new one. How does it stay in that hole? Also, any hints on where to look to see what model it is so I can find parts, manuals, etc?
Thanks!

There's MANY versions of those PTO couplers/pins.

On some, the pin passes completely through the coupler (through a spring), and then is held in by a snap ring or "crimp ring" in a groove on the small end that protrudes through the other side of the coupler. (PERFECT to catch someones clothing!)

I can't think of some of the other ways at the moment!
