how do you check oil level in the rear end? this past winter the rear end froze up. i,m lucky i did not crack my housing. yesterday i loosend the drain plug in the very bottom and about b a gallon of water came out.i b dont know where what or how to fill it.

Very, very common for water to get into the tranny on an H. It enters through the bolt holes, gear shifter and condensation. I pulled over 3 gallons out of mine last year. Now I at least cover the rear of my H to keep it to a minimum.

The oil level plug is on the left side below the clutch, the fill plug is on the deck just to the right of the steering post and it takes 6 gal. of 80-90wt gear lube. Dave

There is a level check plug at the left side of the tractor down by the clutch pedal area.

To fill, ya take that big plug out at the right side of the gearshift lever. Holds 6 gallon total.
