My Hydraulic Stupidity

I'm looking at replacing the hydraulic valves on my the Farmhand F11-B loader on my M. I've got 2 spools and I want 3. The extra will be for my 3-pt hitch (when I get around to buying it). The old valves are pretty worn out, so there is no real point in messing with them.

I'm getting myself all wrapped around the axle on terminology, and I'll bet the solutions are simple. Could you all please back-check what I've kinda figured out?

Three-Way: That's like up, neutral and down for the bucket or hitch, right?

Four-way: That's up, neutral, down and float for the main loader arms, right? What's float?

Open Center, Power Beyond and Closed Center: Open center is where the hydraulic fluid just circulates from inlet side to outlet side of the valve unless it is needed to actually power something. Closed center is used with variable pumps or with a separate unloader valve. Power beyond is used if I need additional valves in the system--like if I were to add some kind of jaws to my bucket or retractable scarifiers to my box blade in the future. I've got a Prince PTO-mounted pump, so I should go with open center for now, right?

Finally (sorry this is so long a post!), my PTO pump completely blocks my use of the PTO. I've seen PTO shaft extensions. What's your opinion on these? Are they safe? Will they wear out my PTO bearings faster? If I added an overrunning clutch in addition to this extension, wouldn't the whole thing kinda get wobbly?

P is the pressure port, T is the tank port, A and B are the work ports. Three way valve you have P-T-A or P-T-B. On a four way valve you have P-T-A-B. The "way" in three-way or four-way tells you how many flow paths you have though the valve. Now, Three position valve up-neutral-down. Four position valve up-neutral-down-float. Float connects ports A-B-T together, in some cases A-B-P-T together, so your loader floats over the contour of the ground.
