Farmall M and C hydraulic questions

For starters, my M has four hydraulic outlets, two right next to each other on the left, and two several inches apart on the right as you're sitting on the tractor. Can I use a two-way cylinder with these or not? Which are supplies, and which are returns?

Secondly, I am looking at pulling a V rake (8 wheel) with a Farmall C... IS there any way to add hyd. remotes to this thing? It does NOT have an adjustable drawbar, only fixed, but it does have the belly lift.. what is the easiest way of putting hyd. on it for a single cylinder V rake?

This is a neet solution. If your tractor has two liftall control arms this might help, but it is not definitive. If it has one, it is correct. JimN

I use my lift-all pump to run my Cross 3pt it works great. There are three output ports two on the clutch pedal side and one on the other. I plumbed my return by putting a T into the drain plug and putting the return line into that. Before I did that I would get a lot of fluid shooting out of the vent on the fill tube cap.

Good Luck

Ms dont have two ports on each side. The clutch side has 2, the other side has one.(Unless its tee'd or something)The one on the control side on top is the fill for the belly pump, none are "returns" as I think your thinking, they are all pressure/return type orts. For a two way valve, well there are a couple of guys here that have done good jobs converting their Ms with aftermarket parts so Ill let those hopefully chime in.

to get two way hydraulics from them, you need a two way open center spool valve, either single, double or triple depending on how many remotes. route one of the hoses from the belly pump, lets say the front one on the left side to the in on the spool valve, route the return to either the belly pump drain plug, i use a tee here with a cap so i can drain the pump to change fluid when necessary, or you can tee in to the fill pipe. to operate, you wire the control rod in the full back position, then use your spool valves to control the cylinder.

As far as the M is concerned, if it has a two way valve setup, the lines are both supply and return. Push the lever and one is supply the other return, reverse direction of the lever and hyd flow is reversed, what was supply is now return and return is now supply.

Bill... I was under the impression that the hydraulics on the M worked in the manner that you speak of, forward places flow in one direction, pulling back reverses the flow, therefore able to operate a two-way cylinder. Are there some M's that were made without this feature?

The C can have a remote by either buying a factory valve[ fasthitch valve] or buying a bypass block to run an open center control valve.
