Cub PTO problems

I have owned a 48 Cub for about 3 years, and it is a good little tractor, except for the PTO. I have been in there a couple of times and replaced the engagement lever. Now it won't stay engaged with any load on it. There is some play seemly in the rear bearing and I haven't replaced the bushing in the end of the PTO shaft. Any sugestions would be appreciated. I have talked to a few other Cub owners and am begining to think the PTO system may be a weak point on these tractors, of course I guess I have to realize it is 60 years old. Thanks Ed

My guess is that the fork is worn. It doesn"t take much wear to loose the needed push to keep that pto engaged. Pull the pto shaft out, take the fork and build the tabs up nice and round. Reinstall and your good as new. Mark
