Farmall H hydraulics question

I have a Farmall H with a Front-End loader which has one-way cylinders on it. Hydraulic valve has four ports on it: 1 Port In, 1 Port to tank, 1 Port marked A, and 1 Port marked B. Port A is connected to the FEL and Port B is connected to a remote quick-attach at the rear of the tractor.

When I move the hydraulic lever to the up position, the FEL lifts as it should. When I move the hydraulic lever to the down position, the engine really takes a hit (bogs, pulls down, works even harder than when lifting something heavy with the FEL), but the FEL does lower. I don"t have any implements or test equipment to test the remote at the rear, so I don"t know if I'm getting pressure there or not.

Is it possible that this valve is made for dual-acting cylinders and has been hooked up strangely? That whenever I press down, the pump is attempting to send pressure to the rear remote but since there is nothing attached, the pressure relief is kicking in? And that's why the engine is working so hard? If that's the case, am I hurting the tractor running it this way? If that isn"t the case, can anyone explain this?

I haven't done any additional testing, it just kind of dawned on me what might be going on and I wanted to verify.

Aside from being annoying, does it hurt anything plumbed this way? I know the fix is to plumb B back to the tank (and even understand why!). Didn't understand the two 1/4 valves that were mentioned earlier. Probably more than I need to get into, as right now I just need the FEL.

If/when I need the rear remotes hooked up, I'll revisit. Just thought life would be easier at that point if I understood how things were now.

Starting with new info:
Ignore the 1/4turn valves, they assumed a Liftall.
All you need is a one way control valve for an open center system to control the loader.
Attach the valve so it is easy to use.
Connect the "return to tank" port of your existing valve to the input port of the new valve. connect its pressure port to a t that connects to the cylinders on the loader.
Connect its return to tank to the tank return.
To "fix" the existing valve, ujst put an additional hose and coupler on the B port and parallel the other remote hose to allow 2 way attachments. JimN

It will work, but lowering the loader is a two-step process.

Move your tractors hydralic lever to the down position and then move that loader's valve again to "up" just as if you were trying to raise the loader.

Since the tractor's lever is in the "dump" position, the weight of the loader will force the oil to flow backwards and the loader will then lower.

Someone just plumbed that valve in there to "split" the use of the hydraulics. When you go to use the rear hydraulics on an implement, you'll have to use the same process to lower that implement as well.

Just so everyone is clear, I only have 1 valve (aftermarket), not tied to the lift-all (I think the lift-all resevoir is being used, but just as a tank, since that's where the lines run. However, I don't utilize the H's standard hydraulic lever for anything. I'm not even sure it has one.).

The tractor has live-hydraulics running off of a distributor mounted pump.

Aw Ha!

Okay, don't dead-head it then, as it will take that gearing right out of the front cover.

In order for that to work, the valve has to be reconfigured for one way action. Usually involves changing out a plug in the valve and routing that "B" port to sump.

You have a two way valve hooked up on one way use. The B port must be hooked up to the return to the tank port, or a one way valve used to operate the system. It is trying to dump pressure into the remote hose, and is wrong. If you need only the loader, just hook it up to the front right, and front left Liftall elbows on the side of the trans, and use the rod to control the lifting. A simple pressure rated 1/4 turn valve in the line going to the valve you have, and additional 1/4turn valves in the loader hoses, would allow you to use the existing valve (connected to a two way cylinder on the remotes with a second hose running from the A port, to the rear) I hope this makes sense. You have answered your own question. Good troubleshooting. Do as Tom says. Not the best solution but it will work.

Have you tried connecting a hose to the remote and joining the other end back to the tank return line with a tee?
